the keynote address this week at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston,– Helen McEntee
I was honoured to deliver the keynote address this week at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston, a fitting and special venue in which to reflect on the deep ties between Ireland and the United States and on the shared values of peace, public service and international partnership that continue to shape that relationship.
It was particularly meaningful to have the opportunity to tour the JFK Presidential Library during the visit. To spend time in a place that preserves the legacy of President Kennedy, whose story and connection to Ireland continue to hold such significance, was very special.

In my remarks, I spoke about the strength of the Ireland-US relationship across peacebuilding, trade, culture and sport and about the importance of choosing dialogue and diplomacy over conflict. I also addressed the deeply concerning situation in the Middle East, stressing the urgent need for de-escalation, respect for international law and a return to negotiation as the only path to a durable peace.
It was also a pleasure to meet Ambassador Victoria Reggie Kennedy and to engage with so many friends of Ireland over the course of the evening. Grateful for the warm welcome in Boston and for the opportunity to mark St Patrick’s Day in such a memorable setting.
