Thoughts on the Port of Galveston

I’ve always liked the Port of Galveston—it has a lot of charm and character—but I don’t cruise from there very often. The main reason is logistics: flights into Houston aren’t always convenient for me, and they can get pricey. From there, the drive down to Galveston adds time and, let’s be honest, the potential headache of traffic.

That said, Galveston itself is a delightful place to explore. The Strand Historic District is a highlight, with its colorful shops, restaurants, and historic architecture. Spending a night in Galveston before a cruise can be a little pricey, but it’s well worth it if you enjoy soaking up the local atmosphere. And if you’re driving down, don’t miss a pit stop at the iconic Buc-ee’s—a Texas road trip tradition!

For me, Galveston is a lovely port with a lot to offer, but convenience usually tips the scale when choosing a homeport.

Now I’m curious: what’s your preferred cruise homeport, and why?
