University of Lisbon Commemorates South Asian Day 2026 with a Vibrant Celebration of Culture, Trade, and Diplomacy

The event attracted a diverse audience, including university students, distinguished South Asian community leaders, and local residents.

The day was firmly supported by high-level diplomatic participation, notably from the Embassy of Bangladesh in Lisbon. The Head of Embassy and Chargé d’Affaires, along with other embassy representatives, attended to foster bilateral ties and cultural exchange. The embassy’s booth showcased premium “Made in Bangladesh” products, highlighting the nation’s craftsmanship alongside rich historical displays.

The festival grounds were alive with a bustling marketplace filled with vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours. Visitors flocked to popular food stalls, such as “Slice of Dream,” to savour authentic Asian street food and traditional delicacies by Muslima Bari & Md. Omar Faroq .

Artisan booths added a distinctive charm to the market, particularly a handmade wooden Jewellery stall by Naima Islam Bethi & Md Asaduzzaman Nissan that captivated attendees with its sustainable, eco-friendly designs.

Entertainment was a central feature, highlighted by a spectacular South Asian Fashion Show presented by “Lucky and Friends,” showcasing a runway filled with vibrant regional attire. The energetic atmosphere reached its peak during a live performance featuring a renowned Bangladeshi vocalist collaborating with the “FNF Friends” musical group.

The event garnered substantial international media coverage and tourism network attention. The participation of the Embassy of Nepal in Lisbon High-level diplomatic backing anchored the day, highlighted by official delegations from regional embassies. H.E. Prakash M. Paudel, Ambassador of Nepal to Portugal, alongside Mr. Shartrudhwan P. S. Pokharel, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission, attended the event to champion bilateral ties. The Embassy of Nepal showcased the country’s rich heritage by displaying tourism promotional materials designed to boost trade and travel to Nepal. The Nepalese exhibition was further elevated by a captivating live flute performance by traditional artist Mr. Durga Thapa.

The participation of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Lisbon underscored the official significance of the event, with high-level diplomats directly supporting cultural exchange. The Embassy’s presence highlighted several key elements:

  • Official Delegation: Ms. Laila Muntajeri Deena, Counsellor, Chargé d’Affaires, and Mr. S M Ghulam Sarwar, Third Secretary & Head of Chancery, along with official embassy representatives, attended the festivities.
