Barcelona Takes Center Stage: 2026 “Water Cube Cup” Grand Finale Puts City on China’s Cultural and Tourism Map

BARCELONA, May 18, 2026 – This past weekend, the majestic Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona hosted the long-awaited Grand Finale of the Barcelona division of the prestigious 2026 “Cultures of China Water Cube Cup” Chinese Song Contest (2026年文化中国·水立方杯中文歌曲大赛). The event marked the culmination of an exciting musical journey that brought together the local community’s most talented performers, serving as an unparalleled cultural bridge between Chinese and Spanish societies.

​The gala was elevated by the distinguished presence of key authorities, underscoring the institutional importance of the event. Attendees included the Consul General of China in Barcelona, Meng Yuhong; the Member of the Parliament of Catalonia, Ernesto CarriónMontserrat Garcia Llovera, representing the Barcelona Provincial Council (Diputación de Barcelona); and senior representatives from the Barcelona City Council. Their presence served to highlight the strong bilateral ties and the integration of the Chinese community within the vibrant socio-cultural fabric of Catalonia.

Organization and Community Cooperation

​The success and scale of this gathering were made possible by the coordinated efforts of the region’s leading Chinese entities. The contest was officially organized by the Federation of Chinese Associations of Spain (西班牙华人华侨社团联合总会) and the Beijing Association in Catalonia (西班牙加泰罗尼亚北京会).

​Logistics management and production for the grand finale were carried out by the United Friendship Association of Chinese Women in Spain (西班牙中华妇女联谊总会)—led by its president, Jie Guan, who also served as the head of the Barcelona Regional Organizing Committee—alongside the Chinese Volunteer Association in Spain (西班牙华人志愿者协会).
