ANTOLOGÍAS Conquers Miami with Sold-Out Screenings, Redefining the Ibero-American Cinema Experience
By Tony Aviles The successful debut of the Miami Ibero-American Film Festival’s new format transformed the Koubek Center into a cultural epicenter where cinema, music, and emotion connected with audiences like never before.

MIAMI, FL — May 18, 2026 — The Miami Ibero-American Film Festival (IAFFM) celebrated the resounding success of the debut of ANTOLOGÍAS, an innovative cinematic experience that turned the Koubek Center into a vibrant meeting point for filmmakers, artists, industry professionals, and the public from May 15th to the 17th.
With several screenings completely sold out and an extraordinary response from the audience, ANTOLOGÍAS solidified its position as a fresh, immersive, and emotionally powerful proposal, reaffirming Miami’s growing status as one of the capitals of Ibero-American cinema in the United States.
Designed as a more intimate and experiential extension of the festival, ANTOLOGÍAS offered three nights of a unique combination of auteur cinema, live conversations with filmmakers, music, cultural encounters, and carefully curated experiences. This transformed the traditional festival format into a deeply human and approachable experience.

“ANTOLOGÍAS was born from the desire to reconnect the public with the essence of cinema through emotion, conversation, and intimacy,” said Fernando Arciniega, founder and director of the Miami Ibero-American Film Festival. “The incredible response from the public confirms that audiences are seeking authentic, memorable cultural experiences capable of generating a connection that goes beyond the screen.”
Highlights of the Weekend
- Opening Night: The program opened Friday with Los Domingos, by renowned Spanish director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, one of the most prominent filmmakers in the current Ibero-American landscape. The film, winner of five Goya Awards—including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay—saw two completely sold-out screenings in Miami, becoming one of the major cinematic events of the weekend. Its emotional and delicate exploration of family, faith, and identity sparked a profound emotional connection with the audience and extensive conversations following each screening.
- A Multidisciplinary Showcase: The Saturday session continued to demonstrate the strength and diversity of contemporary Ibero-American cinema. Mephisto, directed by Cristian Proa, generated intense dialogue during the live Q&A with actress Carmen Tinoco, while Two Islands, by Bert Ochoa, deeply moved the audience with its powerful exploration of Afro-Caribbean and Aboriginal identities. The night culminated in a live concert, turning the festival into an authentic multidisciplinary celebration of Ibero-American culture.
- The Closing: The event concluded with a screening of La estrategia del caracol (The Strategy of the Snail), the iconic masterpiece by Colombian director Sergio Cabrera. The film was received with enthusiasm and nostalgia by an audience that celebrated the enduring relevance of great Latin American cinema and its capacity to generate reflection through humor, humanity, and resilience.
A Future-Facing Vision
Beyond a simple film exhibition, ANTOLOGÍAS has positioned itself as a statement on the future of cultural programming: experiences centered on human connection, shared emotion, and community building.

Under the leadership of Fernando Arciniega, the Miami Ibero-American Film Festival continues to solidify its reputation as one of the most influential platforms for Ibero-American cinema in the United States. Through initiatives like ANTOLOGÍAS and the Ibero-American Audiovisual Market (IAM), the festival drives creative exchange between the Americas and Spain, generating new opportunities for filmmakers, producers, and international audiences.
With this successful debut, ANTOLOGÍAS reaffirms the IAFFM’s vision of presenting cinema not just as entertainment, but as a powerful cultural bridge capable of inspiring dialogue, emotion, and human connection.
