Prof. Marina Novelli chaired the first meeting of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics under the new composition, with H.E. Shaikha Al Nuwais reaffirming UN Tourism’s commitment to promoting the principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and reiterating UN Tourism’s readiness to support the Committee in its work on the four adopted priority areas:

1️⃣ Sustainable Tourism Education in the era of global disruptions;
2️⃣ Decent work and community empowerment for an inclusive and sustainable future;
3️⃣ Sustainable tourism in the era of climate change and environmental disruptions and degradation; and
4️⃣ Sustainable tourism in the era of digital disruptions and AI

What stands out is the long-term perspective already shaping the conversation, with preparations underway for 2027 — the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism presented by Dr. Dirk Glaesser, Director of the Sustainable Tourism and Resilience at UN Tourism.

Encouraging to see leadership focusing not only on growth, but on resilience, ethics, sustainability, and the future skills the industry will need. The coming years will be important for turning these priorities into meaningful action.
